• Great article on Joey Crawford:

  • All right, so everything is finally installed/setup correctly. I’m following the basic guides at the official site and I now have my first Rails app! It’s not very exciting but going to localhost:3000 on my computer now gets you this:

  • I spoke too soon. It started failing because mysql wasn’t installed, however, trying to gem install mysql2 was throwing errors. The fix was to use Homebrew again and do:

    brew install mysql

And then, after that, the gem install would work. (Did I mention this is arcane?)

  • After fixing the issue with rbenv, things are going much more smoothly.

RubyGems is now installed. Trying to get Rails installed using Bundler.

    #rubyquest

  • Ok, I guess you have to read the fine print on rbenv. You have to do this arcane rbenv init which displays a command that you need to paste into your ~/.bash_profile and then after doing that, reopen the shell. This is amazingly arcane.

  •

So to install Ruby, I had to:

    1. Install Brew package/app manager so that I could
    2. Install rbenv so that I could
    3. Install Ruby 2.2.2
Now I just have to install Rails...

    #rubyquest

  • Well, Homebrew started throwing errors when I tried to update it with a “brew update” command. I had to uninstall it and reinstall it and now it seems happy. (I sincerely hope I didn’t break Cocoapods.) But, I did get rbenv installed!

    #rubyquest

  • The project I’m going to hack on requires Ruby 2.2.2. Manton, recommends using rbenv to manage Ruby versions so I guess I’ll try and install that.

    #rubyquest

  • Ok, turns out Ruby 2.0 comes installed on OS X. Also, it turns out that Homebrew (a supposedly good package manager for Ruby) is already installed as well. Maybe it came with Cocoapods?

    #rubyquest

  • I’ve decided to bite the bullet and learn Ruby and Rails. I am instantly overwhelmed by the complexity. Gah!

  • Well, I didn’t get WWDC tickets this year but as a consolation I did get MINECON tickets. I’ll be there with Brendan so it should be fun.

  • Elevated Coffee

2016-05-01 09.57.08-1I had hoped to gush over the waffles and coffee at Elevated, but right before we ordered their waffle maker died. The kids and I were very disappointed. I still enjoyed their coffee, but we wanted waffles! This was coffee shop #30. I’ll do a final review next week. #pdxcoffeehunt

  • Posie's Cafe

2016-04-30 14.14.34 HDR-2I am officially in love with the Kenton neighborhood. In addition to the wonderful Prince Coffee, you can also count Posie’s (8208 N Denver Ave) among the great cafes located there (and they even serve Ristretto!)
